Project Description

This residential exterior painting project took place in the Diamond Run Golf Course community of Sewickley, a highly regarded neighborhood just outside Pittsburgh, PA. The home was roughly 3,000 square feet, with multiple architectural details including dormers, shutters, wood trim, gutters, soffits, downspouts, and a detailed entryway.

The scope was comprehensive. The homeowners wanted the entire exterior updated—siding, trim, shutters, gutters, and even the underside of the porch. Every surface received two coats of premium paint, and great care was taken to achieve clean, elegant contrast across different architectural elements.

This was a $6,000–$8,000 project, which covered labor, surface prep, wood repairs, and high-performance coatings. The entire job took just three days to complete, thanks to strategic planning, ideal weather, and an experienced crew.

Background/Story:

The homeowners, a professional couple, had lived in Diamond Run for several years and were ready to give their home’s exterior a refresh. The original paint had faded unevenly, shutters were peeling, and caulk lines around the windows had started to crack. The house had beautiful lines and structure, but its curb appeal was slipping.

They had seen Four Pillars Paint‘s work just a few doors down on another home in the neighborhood and were immediately impressed. That client gave them a glowing referral, so when the time came to choose a painting company, Four Pillars Paint was already at the top of their list.

The couple worked with a Sherwin-Williams design consultant to finalize a color scheme that was timeless but unique—something that felt classic for the neighborhood while reflecting their personal style. They came to Four Pillars Paint with a very clear vision, and we responded with a detailed, personalized proposal that laid out every step of the process, from prep to final coat.

From the first walkthrough to the final touch-up, the collaboration was seamless. It was clear they valued craftsmanship, communication, and clean execution—qualities Four Pillars Paint takes pride in every day.

Scope of Services

  • Initial Walkthrough & Proposal Development: Met with the homeowners to inspect the full exterior, discuss their goals, and confirm color placements. Created a detailed scope of work tailored to their design plan.

  • Pressure Washing & Surface Prep: Washed the entire exterior to remove dirt and chalky paint residue. Performed wood repairs, filled minor surface cracks with putty, scraped peeling paint, and sanded rough edges for uniform adhesion.

  • Siding Repaint: Applied two full coats of Revere Pewter (color matched) on all horizontal siding, chimney cladding, and the underside of the porch ceiling using brush-and-roll methods for maximum coverage.

  • Soffit & Fascia Paint: Painted these areas in SW 7005 Pure White to create crisp architectural contrast and reflect natural light.

  • Gutters & Downspouts: Coated in SW 7020 Black Fox for a striking edge detail. Special attention was paid to ensure a smoother, glossier finish here for a subtle, upgraded look.

  • Exterior Door & Trim: Brushed on SW 6213 Halcyon Green for the main door, giving the entrance a soft but memorable color accent. Painted all trim to match white fascia for cohesion.

  • Shutters Repaint: Cleaned, repaired, and painted all shutters in Revere Pewter to match the siding for a cohesive, grounded exterior.

  • Window & Lintel Caulking: Re-caulked around all window frames and architectural lintels to seal gaps, prevent moisture intrusion, and prepare surfaces for uniform paint finish.

  • Dormer Repair & Repaint: Repaired minor wood rot and surface wear on upper dormers and repainted to match the overall color scheme.

Results:

This project completely transformed the home’s curb appeal. The color contrast was subtle but bold—the soft greige siding paired with crisp white trim, dark metallic gutters, and that elegant pop of green at the door created a high-end, magazine-worthy exterior.

Neighbors noticed the change immediately. The house looked refreshed but not trendy—a perfect balance of modern and timeless. The homeowners were especially impressed by the clean lines, the sheen of the gutter finish, and how well the colors played off the surrounding landscaping.

“You absolutely nailed it,” the client said. “It’s exactly how we pictured it—but better. We appreciated how organized, professional, and respectful your crew was. And thank you for making the color transitions so clean—it’s the little details that stand out.”

This was more than a repaint—it was a thoughtful home upgrade that respected the architecture and elevated the neighborhood standard. For Four Pillars Paint, it was another day doing what we do best: combining design, precision, and care to help homeowners fall back in love with their homes.
